Healthy Eating: Some Sweet Choices

  Sugar and sugar substitutes, all are sweet, but what's right for me?

It’s hard to escape it. You can add artificial sweetener to your ice tea, but possibly everything you ate with the tea contained some form of sugar, including the infamous High Fructose Corn Syrup everyone is demonizing these days. However, all positive changes, regardless of how small or big, are a step in the right direction. Applause for the effort, keep it up!

It may sound ridiculous, but a recent study at the University of Texas showed that drinking a can or bottle of a diet soda a day actually increased your chances of becoming obese by 40%. Of course, part of this could be that the study participants were already putting on a few pounds and switched to diet soda. What’s important to take away from this study is that making healthier choices is only one part of the equation. You must gradually begin to make healthy lifestyle changes overall, in regards to your diet and exercise, to achieve your health goals. But, step-by-step, you can do it!

And, sugar substitutes just may be one small step to get you moving in the right direction. Sugar and sugar substitutes…yes there are lots of choices, so consider your own personal health situation to make the choice that is best for you. Every healthy change is important and can be a positive force in the direction of your lifestyle. So sweeten up your life the healthy way, one step may be bigger than you think!
